Criteria


The criteria used in the selection process is a modified version of the Service Academy admission criteria. Points are awarded for scholastic achievement, SAT scores, community and school activities and essay composition. Students enrolled must maintain a 2.5 grade point ratio or better.

Process


Prospective students are provided scholarship applications at the club's "future aggies" night held each year on the fourth Tuesday in February. Applications and their attachments must be returned within a specified time for award consideration. The applications are reviewed by the club's scholarship committee and finalists are chosen. Finalists are interviewed by the committee and scholarships are awarded based upon individual performance.

Funding


Club dues provide the funding for the scholarships, along with other events such as the golf tournament and fishing tournaments.

Seventeen students are currently receiving financial aid from the club 
Eight students are on four year terms ($6,000) 
Seven students are on opportunity awards ($500) 
One student on the one year club endowment ($1,500) 
One student on the corps one year scholarship ($1,500) 
Forty eight scholarships awarded since 1998 
Total funding value since 1998 is $99,000 
Students selected represent nineteen local school districts

General Information 

The projected annual costs at Texas A&M is $11,000 
Presidential scholarships provide students $3,000 annually for 4 years (200 available)
Lechner/McFadden scholarships provide students $2,500 annually for 4 years (150 available)
Valedictorians are entitled to paid tuition for the first year 
Salutatorians are entitled to a handshake and a pat on the back 
Presidential scholars average 1410 on the SAT
